It’s not every day that you get to plan a Jewish wedding, with 300 guests, for two Maryland transplants now living in Denver, who met in New York City, with only seven months until wedding day! That was a lot, I know…but challenge accepted!
When it was time to start planning, Saryn and Ben had a few things they knew for sure they wanted for their wedding. They were both set on bringing the outdoors inside. They wanted their industrial Baltimore venue to feel garden-like with lush greenery and plant life everywhere. Being the plant lover that I am, their wish was gladly granted!
Like most Jewish weddings, their ceremony was centered around a chuppah— a structure with “four walls and a ceiling” where Jewish ceremonies are performed. With the help of one of Marlyand’s fine florist, Petal Pushers, we created a statement piece with their chuppah which incorporated all of the beautiful greenery and blooms their hearts desired! Rabbi Hannah Goldstein helped them officialize their marriage first with their ketubah signing followed by a perfect ceremony.
Fun Fact: A ketubah is a Jewish prenuptial agreement. It is considered an integral part of a traditional Jewish marriage, and outlines the rights and responsibilities of the groom, in relation to the bride.
After their traditional Jewish ceremony, the couple stole a few brief moments away for a period of rest— called “yichud”. In true Saryn and Ben fashion, they designated a few of their close friends as “Yichud Guards” to ensure they had time alone together before the many congratulations came their way! (This was one of my many favorite moments from their wedding. A simple, funny, and sweet touch to make sure the most important people in their lives had a special role!)
As always, dinner and dancing followed— but for them, they kick started their party with the Horah! Guests migrated from cocktail hour towards the dance floor to welcome the newlyweds into their reception. Bachelor Boys Band did not disappoint when it was their time to shine and guests all LOVED the action before dinner!
The couples grandmothers said a prayer, broke challah bread together, and just like that…dinner was served! Eleven Courses Catering prepared an absolutely delicious semi-kosher plated meal. With full bellies and happy hearts, everyone went back to the dance floor and danced the night away!
It’s pretty safe to say that Saryn and Ben’s wedding day was one for the books. Together, they are the perfect balance of wit, charm, spontaneity, and compassion. Couples like them make me love planning weddings and events even more than I already do and I am so grateful to have been a part of these moments with them.
