A SANGEET CELEBRATION AT THE MARKET AT GRELEN

August 9, 2022

Multicultural celebrations are some of our favorite weddings to plan at Angelica & Co., and we are thrilled to share Anna & Taylor’s unforgettable Sangeet Ceremony with you! Their two-day Indian & American wedding celebration was a thoughtful and intentional fusion of style & culture – interweaving distinctive elements & beloved traditions from both cultures that flowed beautifully from one component to the next.

A Sangeet is a very exciting and meaningful pre-wedding tradition in Indian culture with a sole purpose of celebrating the love surrounding the couple. It is an extravagant evening of music & dance that signifies the coming together of two families through marriage. Thankfully, Victoria Heer Photography was there to capture every detail and unforgettable moment throughout their wedding weekend!

Anna & Taylor were elegantly and fashionably dressed for the Sangeet in traditional Indian attire. Anna was stunning in a sage green embroidered lehenga set, gilded with dazzling jewelry & bridal accessories of special cultural significance. Her hands & feet were adorned with intricate henna designs while her hair & makeup were subtle and elegant, accentuating her natural beauty. (Faiza and Samira, Moxie Hair Lounge) Taylor was dressed to impress in his sleek ivory sherwani and gold turban. The beauty and intricacy of their attire was captured so beautifully

Many family members traveled great distances to share in the joy with Anna & Taylor as they start their married life together. The Sangeet is the official kick-off event and much anticipated pre-wedding celebration!

Anna & Taylor wanted to incorporate their Mehndi Party within their Sangeet to allow all of their loved ones to participate in this meaningful cultural tradition. Local henna artists hand-painted a plethora of Mehndi designs, each one an original work of art; beautiful, intricate and unique (The Henna Lady) .

The Market at Grelen is one of Angelica & Co’s favorite Charlottesville venues as the entire space is specifically designed to capture the natural beauty of the surrounding garden setting. Gorgeous champagne & blush colored linens draped effortlessly beneath elegant tablescapes in The Orchard Overlook’s clear top stargazing tent. (BBJ Linens, Cedar & Lime Collective)

Overflowing with beauty & traditional Indian flair, a cultural wave gushed into the Sangeet ambiance. The menu featured exquisite authentic Indian cuisine courtesy of IndaAroma and exceptional hospitality and beverage service courtesy of Harvest Moon Catering. Guests enjoyed a variety of delicious dishes with multiple live stations including tandoor, paneer, chaat, rice, kati rolls and an elaborate lassi station. Dessert included Cheesecake bites and The Market at Grelen’s in-house specialty, fresh berries and Homemade Ice Cream!

The evening sun infused the space with a warm ambient glow, accentuating the opulent Indian outfitting. The magnificent colors & patterns reflective of the infectious energy and love surrounding the bride & groom.

Anna moved with elegance and ease as she processed into the space and was led onto the stage adorned with vibrant, heavenly blooms (Cedar & Lime Collective.). As she took her seat on the beautiful velvet settee, Anna was surrounded by the female members of both their families. The ladies paraded on the stage performing beautiful Indian rituals, laying gifts and symbolic items at her feet. Silver bowls overflowed with delicate stacks of brightly colored bangles and endless strands of fresh jasmine garland, each intricately woven and bursting with the soft tropical fragrance.

As the ceremonial component of the evening came to a close, a contagious energy enveloped the crowd. The room came alive with a party vibe as DJ – T.D. Layman with Sound Enforcement teamed up with the evening’s Emcees, close friends of the bride & groom. They took turns introducing each of the dance sequences, depicting different chapters from Anna & Taylor’s life together. Masterfully mixing songs to compliment the line up of choreographed dances, T.D. kept the crowd on their feet, never missing a beat!
